Cisco issued a consolidated end-of-life notice on June 30, 2025 covering UCCE, PCCE, UCCX and CVP versions 12.5 and 12.6. Last day to order: December 31, 2025. Last renewal: December 31, 2026. Last day of support: December 31, 2027. Cisco directs customers to Version 15 (still on-prem) or Webex Contact Center in the cloud. The 2025 Gartner CCaaS Magic Quadrant downgraded Cisco from Challenger (2024) to Niche Player (2025) — accelerating third-party migration consideration. Third-party destinations: NICE CXone, Genesys Cloud CX, Five9, Amazon Connect.

The official EoL clock

Cisco's June 30, 2025 EoL notice covers UCCE, PCCE, UCCX and CVP versions 12.5 and 12.6 in a single announcement (Cisco EoL notice).

Customers have three paths:

  1. Stay on-prem — upgrade to Cisco UCCE/UCCX Version 15
  2. Move to Cisco Webex Contact Center — the cloud-native successor
  3. Migrate to a third-party CCaaS — NICE, Genesys, Five9, Amazon Connect

A separate field notice (FN74341 / FN74348) warns that Cisco is changing the Webex Engage connectivity domain in January 2026, requiring allowlist updates for UCCE/PCCE customers using Finesse digital-channel gadgets (Field Notice FN74341).

UCCX vs UCCE — different products, different migration profiles

Aspect UCCX UCCE / PCCE
Target market SMB / mid-market Enterprise
Max agents per cluster ~400 ~24,000
IVR builder Cisco Script Editor Cisco Voice Portal (CVP) + Call Studio
Routing engine UCCX scripts ICM (Intelligent Contact Management)
Agent desktop CAD / Finesse Finesse
Typical migration timeline 3-6 months 9-18 months

The lineage traces to Cisco's GeoTel/ICM acquisitions of the late 1990s — NOT Aspect (a common misattribution). Cisco does not publish seat counts. No Jitter and Gartner Peer Insights characterize UCCE penetration in the 200-1,000 agent band as historically low due to professional-services intensity (No Jitter).

Webex Contact Center — Cisco's official destination

Webex Contact Center (WxCC) is Cisco's cloud-native, multi-tenant CCaaS successor, hosted on AWS regions globally and administered through Webex Control Hub. Converged with Webex Calling (UCaaS) and Webex Connect (CPaaS — Visionary in 2025 Gartner CPaaS MQ).

Pricing: published per concurrent agent in three tiers — Essentials, Standard, Premium — with industry-reported list ranges of $95-$250 per concurrent agent per month (CloudTalk Webex CC pricing guide, Nextiva). Cisco does not publish enterprise rates.

Federal: Webex Contact Center Enterprise for Government holds FedRAMP Moderate (Joint Authorization Board). Provisioned on dedicated in-country US infrastructure. Cisco's datasheet cites support for up to 36,000 concurrent agents in the government variant (Webex Gov FedRAMP page).

Official UCCX migration tool: Discovery Tool v3.5 extracts multimedia profiles, skills, teams, agents, queues, entry points, outdial configs and audio prompts. Produces CSVs for bulk import via Control Hub (Webex Help migration article). Scripts are not converted — IVR logic must be rebuilt in Flow Designer.

The 2025 Gartner downgrade

In the September 8, 2025 Gartner CCaaS Magic Quadrant, Cisco Webex Contact Center was downgraded from Challenger (2024) to Niche Player (2025).

Strengths cited by Gartner: convergence of CCaaS/UCaaS/CPaaS; customer-satisfaction signals (Gartner Peer Insights Customers' Choice 2025); global support presence.

Cautions cited by Gartner: multiple administrative interfaces, limited third-party integrations (CX Today MQ rundown).

The downgrade drew open criticism — Zeus Kerravala (ZK Research) stated "Gartner's position does not align with reality at all," citing Cisco CCaaS growth and Customers' Choice recognition. Even so, the Niche Player label has become a talking point for competing CCaaS sales teams targeting UCCE renewal windows.

Third-party destinations: top 4

1. NICE CXone

Why: highest Ability to Execute in 2025 Gartner CCaaS MQ; native WEM stack; FedRAMP Moderate; healthcare, financial services and government Industry Solutions.

Vendor migration program: dedicated Cisco migration solutions. Strong fit for regulated industries (FSI, healthcare). Common challenge: re-platforming Calabrio QM tightly bound to UCCX.

Best for: regulated-industry UCCE shops. See NICE review.

2. Genesys Cloud CX

Why: 11-time consecutive Gartner Leader. Preferred for complex routing, hybrid phasing, large UCCE estates (5,000+ seats). Strong CTI to Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, ServiceNow.

Vendor migration program: industry-reported 12-24 months reduced pricing, PS credits, training waivers for Cisco UCCE migrations (CX Today).

Best for: enterprise UCCE shops. See Genesys review.

3. Five9

Why: deepest outbound DNA; published per-concurrent-user pricing; integrations to Cisco CUCM.

Vendor migration program: dedicated Cisco Cloud Migration landing page with Five9 Telephony Connect — allows Cisco CUCM-to-Five9 toll-free transfer during coexistence. Faster deployments than Genesys/NICE in mid-market UCCX swaps.

Best for: outbound-heavy UCCX/UCCE shops. See Five9 review.

4. Amazon Connect

Why: 3rd-time Gartner Leader; per-minute pricing; FedRAMP Moderate + AWS GovCloud High.

Typical migration window: AWS Partners advertise 4-8 week UCCX migrations using flow-by-flow rebuilds. Lex/Bedrock for IVR rebuild.

Best for: AWS-anchored UCCX shops. See Amazon Connect review.

Real migration challenges

IVR conversion — the long pole

Cisco Script Editor (UCCX) and CVP Call Studio (UCCE) cannot be auto-converted into:

  • WxCC Flow Designer
  • Genesys Architect
  • NICE Studio
  • Amazon Connect Contact Flows

Tools like Univonix CC Accelerator render UCCX scripts as diagrams to accelerate rebuild but do not eliminate manual work. Database lookups previously inline in scripts now require middleware APIs.

Industry-reported IVR rebuild timelines: 3-6 months depending on script count, per Telcion and Metropolis.

Telephony porting

SIP trunks terminate on Cisco CUBE/SBC. Carriers must re-point trunks or the CCaaS vendor's SIP must be inserted via Local Gateway. UCCE shops typically retain CUBE during overlap.

WFM continuity

Calabrio (now Verint-owned) confirmed no forced migration. Calabrio ONE integrates natively with UCCX, UCCE, WxCC, NICE, Genesys, Five9, Amazon Connect, Talkdesk, RingCentral and 8×8 (Verint statement, Calabrio integrations). This is a real continuity lever — recordings, schedules and adherence data can persist.

Agent desktop

Finesse layouts, gadgets and Salesforce CTI configurations must be rebuilt in the target's agent desktop (WxCC Agent Desktop, NICE MAX, Genesys Agent Workspace, Amazon Connect CCP). Retraining: typically 1-2 weeks per cohort.

Dual-vendor period

Required while skills/queues cut over. Carriers typically split DNIS ranges; both ACDs run concurrently for 3-9 months in mid-market and 6-18 months in enterprise.

Cost ranges

Cisco does not publish list pricing. Industry-reported reference points:

  • UCCX perpetual/Flex annual seat licenses historically ran ~$1,359-$2,288 per agent/year depending on tier (Nextiva, TrustRadius)
  • WxCC list $95-$250 per concurrent agent/month; 200+ agent deals routinely close 40-55% below list per industry reports
  • Full CCaaS migration projects: industry-reported 6-12 months end-to-end, services costs ranging from "several thousand to several hundred thousand dollars" plus per-employee training (Selecthub)
  • Dual-vendor overlap is the largest hidden cost — most enterprises pay both Cisco maintenance/Flex AND new CCaaS seat fees for 3-18 months. Cisco Flex subscription terms typically do not allow mid-term cancellation without true-up; early-termination patterns more commonly involve non-renewal at the next anniversary rather than buyback.

Buyer playbook

  1. Confirm your UCCX/UCCE version against the EoL table. 12.5/12.6 hits last-day-of-support December 31, 2027 — that's the realistic deadline.
  2. Decide stay-on-prem vs cloud before vendor selection. Cisco Version 15 keeps you on-prem; WxCC moves you to Cisco cloud; NICE/Genesys/Five9/Amazon Connect break the Cisco dependency.
  3. If staying with Cisco: WxCC is the path. Note the 2025 Gartner Niche Player downgrade signals execution concerns; verify product roadmap before committing.
  4. If leaving Cisco: vendor migration program depth matters. NICE and Five9 ship the most-developed UCCX/UCCE migration tooling.
  5. IVR rebuild is the schedule driver — budget 3-6 months explicitly, not "incidental work."
  6. Calabrio WFM is portable — use that continuity to reduce one source of switching cost.
  7. Dual-vendor period — 3-9 months mid-market, 6-18 months enterprise — explicitly budgeted.

Bottom line

Cisco UCCX/UCCE 12.5/12.6 end-of-support December 31, 2027 forces the decision. Cisco's path is Version 15 (still on-prem) or Webex Contact Center (cloud, but 2025 Gartner Niche Player downgrade). Third-party paths — NICE CXone (regulated industries), Genesys Cloud CX (enterprise breadth), Five9 (outbound + Telephony Connect coexistence), Amazon Connect (AWS-anchored, fast rebuild) — each address a different Cisco subsegment. IVR rebuild and dual-vendor period are the biggest hidden costs; Calabrio WFM portability is the underutilized continuity lever.

Frequently asked questions

December 31, 2027. Last day to order is December 31, 2025; last renewal is December 31, 2026. Cisco issued the consolidated EoL notice on June 30, 2025 covering UCCE, PCCE, UCCX and CVP versions 12.5 and 12.6.

Two options: (1) upgrade to Cisco UCCX/UCCE Version 15 (still on-prem), or (2) move to Webex Contact Center (cloud-native). The UCCX→WxCC Discovery Tool v3.5 extracts users, skills, queues and audio prompts but does NOT auto-convert scripts — IVR logic must be rebuilt in Flow Designer.

Cisco Webex Contact Center moved from Challenger (2024) to Niche Player (2025). Gartner cited multiple administrative interfaces and limited third-party integrations as Cautions. Strengths cited: convergence of CCaaS/UCaaS/CPaaS and Customers' Choice recognition.

NICE CXone (regulated industries, FedRAMP Moderate, NICE Cisco Migration Solutions program), Genesys Cloud CX (enterprise breadth, 12-24 months reduced pricing incentives), Five9 (outbound DNA, Five9 Telephony Connect for Cisco CUCM coexistence), Amazon Connect (AWS-anchored, 4-8 week mid-market migrations possible). Cisco Webex Contact Center remains the safest "minimum change" path.

No. Cisco Script Editor (UCCX) and CVP Call Studio (UCCE) cannot be auto-converted to WxCC Flow Designer, Genesys Architect, NICE Studio or Amazon Connect Contact Flows. Tools like Univonix CC Accelerator render scripts as diagrams to accelerate rebuild but do not eliminate manual work. Industry-reported IVR rebuild timelines: 3-6 months.

Industry-reported: WxCC list pricing $95-$250/concurrent agent/mo (200+ agent deals close 40-55% below list). Full migration projects 6-12 months end-to-end. Services costs range from several thousand to several hundred thousand dollars plus per-employee training. Dual-vendor overlap (Cisco maintenance + new CCaaS) is the largest hidden cost — 3-9 months mid-market, 6-18 months enterprise. Cisco Flex subscription cancellation patterns typically involve non-renewal at next anniversary, not mid-term buyback.
